Current Project

The District is currently faciliting a forest management project on the Sierra National Forest called the Upper San Joaquin Kaiser East Protection Project. This project protects the Southern Sierra’s greatest resources of the upper San Joaquin river. This strategic location within the Sierra National Forest of Fresno County will protect green forests, meadows, watershed health, habitat for endangered species, businesses, and disadvantaged and tribal communities. Treatments include 1,250 acres (up to 1,390 acres).

The CAL FIRE Forest Health Program addresses the risk to California’s forests from extreme disturbance events including catastrophic wildfires, drought, and pest mortality. The Upper San Joaquin Kaiser East Protection Project is funded by this CAL FIRE program.
