Sierra RCD launched a new program in October of 2025 to increase the pace and scale of forest management in the District and the region through the use of beneficial fire.
The Alignment Strategies Group (ASG) is a specialized fuels reduction and prescribed fire program within Sierra RCD focused on improving wildfire resilience across the central Sierra Nevada. ASG provides a flexible, highly skilled crew capable of implementing fuels management work across diverse landscapes and land ownership boundaries where coordinated, cross-jurisdictional approaches are needed.
ASG is led by Superintendent Adam Hernandez, who brings extensive experience in wildland fire operations and workforce development, including previous work with the U.S. Forest Service and directing the wildland fire training program at Reedley College.
The program focuses on strategic fuels reduction and prescribed fire implementation across both public and private lands, supporting work in areas such as the Creek Fire footprint and surrounding landscapes. Through this approach, ASG helps reduce hazardous fuels, improve forest and watershed health, and enhance landscape continuity to support safer and more effective wildfire response throughout the region.
