Creek Fire 2020

The Creek Fire is credited as one of the largest wildfires in California history. It started September 4th 2020 and burned until November 2020 reaching over 370,000 acres across Eastern Fresno and Madera Counties.

SRCD’s Firesafe and Fuels Reduction Team worked through the Spring of 2020 to prevent wildfire by partnering with local landowners. There are some success stories of landowners who saved their homes partnering with SRCD and by following firesafety guidelines. See an April 2020 story here in the local Mountain Press:

Post-Fire Property Assessment Report

Sierra RCD is offering free and voluntary Property Assessment Reports for landowners affected by the Creek Fire. The assessment will indicate the burn severity of the soil and indentify recommended erosion prevention treatments. The report was created with training from USDA/US Forest Service resources, the NRCS, and the CA Water Quality Control Board.

The report will contain an assessment of:

Soil Burn Severity
Erosion Prevention Recommendations
Other land stewardship recommendations

After the completion of a report, efforts will be made by our collaborative partners to coordinate volunteer labor and donated materials specific to your property’s erosion control and soil stabilization needs. See more information here:

AmeriCorp 2022

AmeriCorp Blue Team 6 is assigned to assist the Sierra Resource Conservation District in Partnership with Creek Fire Recovery Collaborative. All of their help and hours of work are 100% volunteered. This incredible team of eight will start with creek fire recovery efforts and then move onto the second part of their assignment and assist with fire prevention in the Kings-Sequoia gateway communities (HWY 180).
