On February 1, 2025, Sierra Resource Conservation District (RCD) joined forces with the San Joaquin River Conservancy and California Climate Action Corps to host California Climate Action Day at Woodward Park. This impactful event brought together nearly 50 volunteers, including local organizations and community members, all committed to stewardship and conservation.

Spearheading volunteer coordination for the event was Jesse Hernandez, a dedicated Sierra RCD team member and fellow with the California Climate Action Corps. His leadership helped ensure a successful day of action and collaboration. He recalls, “Seeing the transformation firsthand was truly inspiring and motivated me to continue leading these events.”

The event also saw participation from Beautify Fresno and the San Joaquin River Parkway and Conservation Trust, reinforcing the importance of teamwork in addressing climate challenges. Fresno Mayor Jerry Dyer, Assemblyman Joaquin Arambula and Senator Anna Caballero attended the event and provided an inspiring rally for the volunteers before the day’s activities commenced. Our event partners, Beautify Fresno and the San Joaquin River Parkway Trust also organized a simultaneous habitat restoration volunteer activity along the river, reinforcing the importance of teamwork.

Volunteers began the day with a resource fair, networking opportunities, and a breakfast of burritos to fuel their efforts. Some volunteers worked on removing protective cages from trees and plants, that were planted in the area nearly five years ago.

The success of Community Climate Action Day was made possible by the dedication of all volunteers and the efforts of Sierra RCD’s College Corps and Climate Action Corps fellows, each person played a valuable role in this important initiative. Their work continues to support climate resilience and foster a cleaner, greener future.
