On February 26-27, SRCD staff members, Leierin and Mason, attended the Regenerative Grazing Training at Paicines Ranch, an event focused on improving soil health and sustainable ranching practices. This hands-on training provided valuable insights into field assessment tools and peer-to-peer learning strategies that support effective land stewardship.

Mason Roth, from Sierra RCD’s Ag and Rangeland team, reflected on a key takeaway from the event, “start with a low-risk project and gradually grow from there. Many ranchers are hesitant to dive into regenerative ranching practices because the process can feel overwhelming. The advice to begin small with manageable projects helps ease into the practice, reducing the feeling of being overwhelmed.”

Inspired by the training, staff plan to integrate these field assessment tools into SRCD’s new free soil health assessment service. Additionally, we hope to apply the collaborative learning approach from the workshop to enhance our own outreach and education efforts.

By incorporating these techniques, SRCD aims to support local ranchers in adopting regenerative practices that promote healthy soils and resilient landscapes.
