Amy Demello started at Sierra RCD as a Central Valley College Corps Forestry and Watershed Assistant for the 2023-2024 academic year. Recognized for her exceptional performance, she was promoted to Forestry Tech Assistant, where she conducts fire risk evaluations and implements fire reduction work for the Forestry and Watershed Program. Amy’s responsibilities include tree planting, developing land management plans, and community outreach to educate and enroll residents in Firewise communities.
During her time at Sierra RCD, Amy has improved her skills in GIS mapping and forestry practices such as operating a chipper and assessing fire and erosion risks. One of her favorite experiences at Sierra RCD was planting trees in the Creek Fire burn scar alongside her coworkers because she hopes their work will have long-term positive impact.
Outside of work, Amy enjoys spending her time observing animals in nature and working hands-on with big cats at Cat Haven. In the future, Amy hopes to conduct and publish research on endangered species.
